AUDITION FAQ!
Q: Is there a tech application?
A: Yes! There will be crew forms available when school starts for those interested in tech for any of the shows.
Q: Do I have to slate/what is slating?
A: Slating is an introduction for you and the piece(s) you’ll be performing. It might sound like, “Hi! I’m (your name) and I’ll be performing a monologue/song from (play/musical) by (playwright/composer). Thank you!” Slating helps the auditioners get a sense of your personality and professionalism, so we strongly recommend slating for this audition (and practicing your slate)!
Q: Does my monologue have to be memorized?
A: Yes, it’s always recommended to go into an audition fully memorized and practiced. With that being said, you’re human and mistakes happen! So if you forget a line or have to start your monologue over, take a breath and don’t worry about it. The auditioners don’t need you to be perfect!
A: Does my song have to be from a musical?
Q: If you’re interested in being in the musical, it might be best to practice and show off your singing in that style. However, if your strength is in another style, that can totally work too! Whatever song you choose, try to reflect the story and emotion in your acting.
Q: If I have a song, should I come with a karaoke/instrumental track?
A: Yes! There will be a Bluetooth speaker at the audition (or you can bring your own!) for playing backing tracks. During the audition, you can check the volume and sound before singing. If you can’t find a track for your song, reach out to Mr. Knight-Hauke for access to his audition resources! You’re also welcome to sing a capella.
Q: Do I need to have theatre experience to be considered for casting?
A: Not at all! Past experience is a great thing to mention on your audition sheet, but it’s also completely not required. All skill and experience levels are welcome!
This is a ton of information, so please remember that you can always reach out to Mr. Knight-Hauke, Board, YOC, or any WHS Theatre member for clarification. No questions are bad questions!

The YOC, or Youth Outreach Committee, will be our new representatives for the younger members of the theatre. This committee consists of all 10th graders and will aim to help out the incoming freshmen and help them connect more with the rest of our theatre community! Get ready to see more of them on Wildcat Day and Freshman Rush!
Your two new board members are IAN and STEPHON!!! To everyone else who interviewed, please know that it was a very hard decision because we had a lot of really good candidates, and many of you will definitely hear from us for other leadership opportunities we have planned. We also have a new committee called the YOC! More information on that coming soon!
Re-vote for next year’s Shakespeare show! The link will be available in our instagram bio until Friday. Voting official closes this Friday at 2:30 pm so get your vote in!
Your three show options are:
• The Tempest
• Much Ado About Nothing
• The Twelfth Night
After considering the options, it was decided that Macbeth wasn’t a show that we as a department will be able to showcase our abilities to the best extent in. For that reason it has been taken out of the running.

In developing our theatre department, we wanted our program to be different, innovative and provocative while still encompassing many of the traditional elements that have been so successful in the Beaverton School District.
